Considering becoming a CLC? Read this first

Why it may not prepare doulas to support feeding challenges or pumping

Debating between a CLC and Bridge?

Learn what most birthworkers don’t realize about lactation support and what makes Bridge different.

Yesterday, a new student joined Bridge.

She messaged me first and said:

"I'm thinking about getting my CLC, but I’m also drawn to Bridge. I just don’t want to make the wrong choice."

She’s an exclusively pumping mom. She wants to support other parents like her. And like so many birthworkers, she thought the CLC was the next logical step.

Until we talked it through.

CLC vs. Bridge.

A Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) can be a solid credential.

But the catch is: CLC training focuses on the normal course of breastfeeding.

That means:

-It skips over pumping in depth.

-It doesn’t teach you how to integrate lactation support to grow your doula practice.

-It may not give you real-life tools like scope clarity, client language, or community

And for birthworkers who want to offer feeding support without becoming an IBCLC? That matters.

If You’re Here, You’re Likely Not Just Doing This for a Certification...

You’re doing it because: A client asked you a feeding question you couldn’t fully answer.

You want to help with latching, pumping, and positioning, but second-guess your scope.

You know you’re already supporting families postpartum. You just want to do it better.

Bridge was built for this exact reason.

It isn’t just a course. It’s mentorship, scope clarity, and connection you can use immediately.

It’s real IBCLC support + community + business integration.

And it meets you where you’re at.

What the Birthworker Yesterday Realized: And You Might, Too...

She didn’t need more credentials.

She needed: A safe place to build lactation confidence as a doula.

A clear path for adding this to her existing services. Guidance that honors pumping, flange fit, and real-world feeding challenges.

And that’s what led her to Bridge.

Starting in September 2025, Bridge will shift to application-only.

If it’s been on your heart? Now’s the time to talk it through.
