CLSS™ Reinstatement Policy

Purpose

To describe how an individual whose CLSS™ designation has expired may regain active status within a defined period while maintaining the integrity and credibility of the certification.

This policy is administered in accordance with Birthwork Institute™ commitment to fairness, impartiality, and non-discrimination. All reinstatement decisions are made using consistent criteria and without bias toward any individual or group.

Scope

This policy applies only to certificants whose CLSS™ designation has expired within the last 90 days. It does not apply to individuals whose certification was revoked, suspended, or voluntarily relinquished.

Definitions

  • Expiration: The date when the certificant’s CLSS™ credential becomes inactive due to non-renewal.
  • Grace Period: A period of up to 90 days following expiration during which a certificant may seek reinstatement.
  • Reinstatement: The process by which a certificant restores active status within the allowable grace period by meeting specified requirements.

Eligibility for Reinstatement

Certificants may apply for reinstatement if:

  • Their CLSS™ designation expired within the past 90 days.
  • They have completed the required continuing education (CE) hours for the current renewal cycle.
  • They submit the required reinstatement fee and any outstanding renewal fee.
  • They attest to the most recent CLSS™ Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice, and Standards of Practice.
  • They meet all other eligibility criteria in effect at the time of reinstatement.

Ineligible for Reinstatement

Individuals whose CLSS™ designation has been expired for more than 90 days are not eligible for reinstatement. To regain certification, they must reapply and meet all current requirements for initial certification.

Status During Lapse

During the lapse period, individuals may not use the CLSS™ designation, marks, or represent themselves as certified.

Any continued use of the CLSS™ name, logo, or credential during lapse may disqualify the individual from reinstatement.

How to Request Reinstatement

To request reinstatement within the 90-day grace period, certificants must:

  • Submit a written request or online reinstatement form through their Birthwork Institute™ account.
  • Upload documentation verifying completion of Continuing Education activities.
  • Pay the reinstatement and any applicable renewal fee (non-refundable once review begins).
  • Attest acceptance of the CLSS™ Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice, and Standards of Practice.

Review & Decision

Applications will be reviewed for completeness and compliance with current standards. Birthwork Institute™ will notify applicants of the outcome by email. Approved reinstatements restore active CLSS™ status as of the approval date (not retroactive). If denied, the applicant may correct deficiencies and resubmit within the 90-day period.

Appeals

Applicants may appeal a reinstatement denial within thirty (30) days of notification if they believe a procedural error occurred or have new, relevant evidence not previously considered.

Fees

  • Please see the current Fee Policy. All fees are non-refundable.
